With Easter so early this year, there are only two Sundays in the Epiphany season, including last week and this week, the Transfiguration of our Lord. Transfiguration is the climax of the Epiphany, for it is the final manifestation of Jesus as the Divine Christ before He continues in humility to the cross and to death for the redemption of the human race.
God is always hidden to sinful human eyes and will be until He is revealed to us when we stand before Him in Christ’s own righteousness. In the meantime He is hidden in the burning bush. He is hidden in the suffering so faithful Joseph. He is hidden in the cross. And He is hidden in the troubles and trials of our life that ultimately work for our eternal good if we remain faithful to Him.
By sight we see a broken world, but by faith we see the risen Christ above it all, ruling and governing everything for the church.
