Lessons and Prayers for Holy Week – Good Friday
HYMN: #335 “O Sacred Head Now Wounded”
Introit: Surely He has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. All we like sheep have gone astray; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Hear my prayer, O Lord; and let my cry come unto You.
EPISTLE: Isaiah 52:13 to 53:12
Prayer for the Day
Almighty and everlasting God, You willed that Your Son should bear for us the pains of the cross, that You might remove from us the power of the adversary: help us to remember and give thanks for our Lord’s Passion that we may obtain remission of sin and redemption from everlasting death; through the same, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Gradual: Reproach has broken My heart, and I am full of heaviness; and I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see if there is any sorrow like unto My sorrow, which is done to Me, wherewith the Lord has afflicted Me in the day of His fierce anger.
GOSPEL: John 18:1 to John 19:42
HYMN: #297 “Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted”
