Epiphany Jesus Heals our Infirmities Because the world we live in is filled with sin, sickness, accidents, evil, and death; each of us is impacted with many difficulties in life. When we deal with a broken bone, cancer, the flu, or some incurable condition; we might wish that Jesus was on earth so we could just touch Him and be healed.

Now, we can pray to Jesus for healing and He promises to answer and give us what is best for us. If we reflect on our lives, we might think of many illnesses, broken bones, and other trials that Jesus healed or gave us strength to endure.

However, there are times when God desires that we suffer. First, God wants us to trust in Him no matter how difficult life gets. Second, afflictions remind us to cast all our care upon Him who cares for us and answers our prayers. Third, God wishes to direct our attention to heaven, rather than giving us a paradise on earth. Fourth, God knows that we tend to forget about Him when life is too pleasant. And fifth, trials, afflictions and problems in the world give us opportunities to pray for, care for, and assist with our neighbor’s troubles.

When problems arise, we may tend to forget about our greatest problem—sin. This infirmity is without human cure. Its consequence is death—on earth and in eternity. Because all humans are affected with this spiritual problem, we cannot escape God’s justice by doing good.

Jesus was born to rescue all humans from sin and death. Jesus said that He “did not come to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:17). Jesus healed our sin by means of His holy life and His innocent death on the cross. Jesus laid down His life as a ransom payment. God punished Jesus instead of us, so that God forgives our sins. Not only does faith in Jesus heal our souls, it also gives us life eternal in heaven.

If Jesus has healed our biggest problem, He can also give us strength to deal with the smaller ones that plague our lives.
