For your meditation this morning, please review the events just prior to the Gospel lesson in Luke 5:1-11:
Luke 4:1-13 – Jesus defeats Satan with the Word of God
Luke 4:14-30 – Jesus preaches the Word of God to the hometown crowd at Nazareth evoking a powerful response
Luke 4:31-37 – Jesus commands the demons to leave
Luke 4:14, 36 – Jesus preaches the Word of God with great authority and power
Luke 4:38-39 – Jesus rebukes the fever of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law
Luke 4:40-41 – Jesus does not let the demons speak
Luke 4:42-44: "At daybreak he departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowds were looking for him; and when they reached him, they wanted to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.’ So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea."
