On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther shared Ninety-Five Theses with the world. Although they did not reflect his mature understanding of the Bible, the impact they had let to that date being observed as the beginning of the reformation.
As part of the Reformation 500 celebration, the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) [an association of 32 faithful Lutheran church bodies] prepared a new set of Ninety-Five Theses, put together by a committee of fifteen pastors from around the world. These Theses were approved at a meeting of the CELC in Grimma, Germany on June 29, 2017.
The CELC's Ninety-Five Theses for the 21st Century, unlike Luther's, present all the basic teachings of the Bible as confessed in the Lutheran Church. They are organized according to the outline of Luther's Catechism, which to this day is treasured as a teaching tool in the churches of the CELC.
As part of our celebration of the 500th anniversary of the reformation, St. Timothy will host a video highlighting the 95 Theses for the 21st Century for our edification. The Theses will be presented by representatives of church bodies of our fellowship from North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe.
